The draft South Vedder Neighborhood Plan is ready for consideration at City Hall.

The board is expected to approve receipt of the draft plan at the board meeting on Tuesday, February 15.

“In response to increased interest in development in this area, the South Vedder Neighborhood Plan was prepared ahead of the creation of a Vedder Neighborhood Plan, which is expected to be undertaken in 2023,” according to the staff report. of February 15. agenda package.

The City of Chilliwack has been updating neighborhood plans one by one over the past several years to support its long-term growth management strategy in the Official Community Plan (OCP).

The South Vedder area has “long been designated” for general commercial or “medium density” residential development in the OCP. Consultation on South Vedder’s plan in the summer of 2021 was conducted online at EngagementChilliwack.com and will gather further feedback on the draft plan.

“While all areas of the city are experiencing growth, the South Vedder area has considerable potential to accommodate new development opportunities, in the form of infill densification and redevelopment.”

The South Vedder neighborhood is east of Vedder Road and directly below Promontory, also shares borders with Tzeachten First Nation, and Vedder Road forms the western boundary.
